Maria McAteer is an actor, writer, musician and ex world champion Irish dancer based in East Sussex.
Half Irish and half Trinidadian, Maria was born in Kensington, London and raised in Newcastle Upon Tyne where she attended La Sagesse Grammar School in Jesmond. Maria qualified as an SRN/RGN nurse at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital before moving to London to embark on a new career and study drama at The Poor School. To help finance her training Maria worked as a relief nurse in London’s busiest hospitals. Although it was challenging to juggle nursing with drama school, Maria feels her early nursing experiences to have been rewarding, humbling and extremely grounding,
“Nursing was an invaluable foundation for a career in the arts that aids integrity and focus and has always given me clarity in the motivation behind the work I choose to do. I find I can reach up into the greatest heights of my creativity when my feet are firmly placed on the ground!”
Proactive and always on the go, Maria’s past/present work/ongoing projects include Theatre, Music and Irish Dance.
